The monthly newsletter for the First Presbyterian Church of Spring Hill, Tennessee.
The presidential campaigns are capturing the imagination of most of the country with unlikely candidates doing well and “establishment” ones feeling the heat if not bailing out all together. Voter anger, unsubstantiated allegations, and outrageous promises are all on the topics of news broadcasts and talk shows and comedy routines. With all of this going on and “Super Tuesday” coming up the focus of the month of March seems on the names of Trump and Clinton and Sanders and Cruz and Rubio (there are others but I can’t remember their names). It seems at this point that the single most important name is being drowned out by all of the political hoopla – Jesus. All the promises and claims of what the candidates will do for us pale in the face of the event we will celebrate this month – our true hope lies only in the promise of Easter.
Though the resurrection of Jesus Christ proclaims that there is life after death, it is much more than that – it is a call to we who would claim to be Christians to take up the way of Jesus. The powers of hatred and oppression and death must be exposed, and we must do so armed only with the Word of God. The resurrection tells us that the victory already belongs to the Lord, and that the faith of Jesus Christ assures us that victory is ours as well. Christ is alive, and in Him we are freed to live as His people.
Please check out the Mission Flyer on page three; Brenda Hogan put together a great resource so that our church family can see the areas where we are reaching out and planning to do more in Christ’s name. This is how we will live as Easter people; this is how we show the true power of our faith.
Yours in Christ,
