The monthly newsletter for the First Presbyterian Church of Spring Hill, Tennessee.
Horrible and sickening violence struck our church family and Spring Hill last month in the murder of Sharron Cantrell. I will not go into the details except to say that this level of violence is so prevalent that it’s only when it happens someone we know that we are shaken from the lethargy that comes with living with a status quo of our culture’s fascination with deadly things. Jesus Christ was a victim of violence, and his scourging and execution should show to Christians how completely fallen we are when we place our confidence that kind of coercive power. The challenge that faces us is to be bound together by more than our violent tendencies and fascination with the means of violence. We enter Lent on the last Sunday of February; I think that this year our need for Christ’s grace and the great lengths He went to show that grace will be exceptionally poignant.
I plan to start a confirmation class on the 8th during the Sunday School hour; we have 2 young people already, let me know if there are any others so I can order more books. This is an 8 session program. Also, please let Eliot or me know if you know anyone who would be willing to keep the Worship nursery; we hope to move Kylie into teaching Children’s Church.
Yours in Christ,
Please keep our sick and shut-ins in your prayers: Billie Galloway, Liz Jacobs, Margarette Marsden, Juanita Roberts, Jim Victory, and Jean Webster.
Most of you know about the tragic death of Sharron Cantrell on the 17th. Please keep the Cantrell and Copley families in your prayers; also remember the students and staff of Spring Hill Elementary.
Remember the family and loved ones of Bill Dupree in your prayers; Bill died on the 27th from pancreatic cancer.
The Presbyterian Women will meet on February 11 at Olive Garden at 11:30 for our monthly Birthday Outing; join us at 11:30 at the restaurant. On February 23 we will get together in Fellowship Hall for our regular monthly Bible study and fellowship. All women of the church are invited and encouraged to join with us.
We will be receiving the Souper Bowl of Caring hunger offering on Feb. 1 during Worship. The proceeds from the Souper Bowl go to local hunger programs; our Session has designated this year’s offering to support the Jetpack Program of The Well which provides food to needy children for their weekend meals. Please join in the offering by bringing dried and canned foods and monetary offerings.
